Pooveli Tamil movie review

Karthik, Kausalya, Heera and Abbas are the central characters in this lovely film.

The story line is good; the central theme is love (surprise, surprise).  Karthik and Kausalya have been school mates and they meet by chance after a few years.  Karthik is romantically inclined towards Heera but she does not show any interest as she wants to focus on her academics.  Kausalya had also  been romantically involved with Abbas and they were ready to tie the knot even without her parents consent but by a cruel turn of fate Abbas meets with his end.  Karthik accompanies Kausalya to her ancestral home to be a temporary solution to her problems but things take an unexpected turn.  There are multiple twists and turns to this story - first the arrival of Abbas's parents, second Heera's arrival when wedding preparations are in full swing etc 

Just to focus on the hero's goodness Kausalya's character has been portrayed as a little selfish and tight lipped.
 

Music is very soothing and pleasant.  The joint family scenes are very homely and village setting is adorable.

Oru Indian Pranayakatha - Malayalam movie review

Fahadh Faasil, and Amala Paul are the lead characters in this Malayalam movie.  Fahadh does a good job of being an upcoming politician under the mentor ship of Innocent, he hails from a humble background and his affections are already taken - rather he has attached himself to a wealthy heiress just to secure his position.  In comes Amala Paul, she is an Indian of Canadian origin who has come to town to shoot documentaries about orphanages.

 

Everyone is shocked when Amala is taken into custody overnight and later on Fahadh comes to know her real intentions of finding her roots.

 

The hero helping her locate two important people in her life - though she has never ever met them before - forms the second half of the movie.

 

There are plenty of humorous situations in this movie - hero's poster having some unique uses; the hilarious scenes in Dr Tulasi's clinic  where Fahadh and Amala pose as husband wife; Amala's mischievousness in the bus - to name a few.

 

Amala does her role with dignity and successfully evokes the empathy of the audience for someone in her position.  Fahadh sometimes doubles up as a comedian but his heart is in the right place.

 

Perhaps a clichéd theme but well executed.  Beautiful movie.  Music is poignant and pleasant.

London Bridge - Malayalam movie review

Prithviraj, Andrea Jeremiah and Nanditha Raj feature in this Malayalam entertainer.  This movie liberally shows off London and UK in general.  The introduction is too much buildup, leaves the audience wondering what would unfold!  Nanditha's story develops very well.

 

To a large extent movie maintains suspense; the ending is quite cinematic.  Prithviraj's transformation comes about quite quickly! Andrea as the rick flaky girl and gold hunting Prithviraj is quite convincing.  Did Andrea trick Prithvi into realising who he really loves? Music is good.  A wholesome entertainer.

 

Veeram Tamil movie review

Thalai (Ajith) offers this super entertainer movie - Veeram.  Almost for the entire movie he dons dhoti and shirt which I find very 'Tamilan' like!  His looks and make up is good too. 

Ajith is the oldest of five brothers, he is the one who looked after them in their youth after they lost their parents at a very young age.  So predictably all the brothers look up to him and his is the last word always.  By sheer hardwork, Ajith holds a respectable position and a floursihing business in his home town.  However he has resolved never to get married because a new comer to the family may, just may, drive a wedge among the close knit brothers.  All that changes when the brothers and Santhanam (as their family lawyer) plot to get Ajith to fall in love with Tamanna, who is a new comer to the village.

The second half of the story is set in Tamanna's village and her family.  Not only is the hero's costume very 'tamilian' but almost the entire movie is set in rural Tamil Nadu which is a refreshing sight.  Also in the second half Tamanna's home is very well depicted and it blends into the scheme of things quite well.

Santhanam's comedy is a scream in the first half; things get all the more hilarious after Thambi Ramaiyya joins on in the second half.

Tamanna performs her role with maturity and it is a welcome change!

This movie has the perfect mix of fights, good music, humor, a plausible story line, and overall a good entertainer, but the charismatic Ajith is who acutally steals the show.

Chinna thambi - movie review

         Prabhu as Chinna Thambi and Khushboo are the heroes in this village based theme.  The scenery is lovely and the music is very good too.  A nice entertainer if you can tolerate the extreme thali sentiment.  I say entertainer because for the three hours of watching this movie you have to be prepared to buy into the unrealistic bringing up of the heroine which has propelled her to marry the first guy, who is not her brother, that she has access to.  The hero of course is the epitome of innocence since he does not even know what a marriage means but otherwise he is the perfect hero - he can sing well, he can fight well, has his heart in the right place etc.

 

         The villains in this movie are Khushboo's over protective brothers who obviously cannot tolerate this bumpkin to be her suitor.  So they wreak vengeance in a very unique way - by pouring colored water, then applying kumkum then adorning flowers on the long widowed mother of Chinna Thambi, Manorama.  He is about to tie the thali (again thali sentiment) when Chinna Thambi promptly rescues her from that predicament.  As Radharavi, the villain hovers with the thali, my mind works fast, is this movie going to end like Apurva Ragangal movie?  So if Radharavi, Khushboo's brother marries Prabhu's mom and becomes his father is he rendering the possibility of marriage impossible?  And what would happen to his wife Sulakshana?  Thankfully putting an end to all my surmises Prabhu jumps in and saves his mother from further insults! 

 

     And all ends well when the villains repent for their deeds and decide to get their sister (re)married with her lover.  (She had already married him in secrecy - in fact Prabhu himself did not know that he was making her his wife by tying the thali around her neck!!!)

 

 

 

Thillu Mullu (new movie) review

This movie is hilarious!!  Even though I had my doubts about waching a remake it was not my choice to watch this - it was playing on TV and I eventually stared watching it, laughing with it and eventually liking it.  Let me confess that I am not a great fan of remakes or remixes - only an original can intrigue me - or so I thought until I watched this.  The whole team - Shiva, Kovai Sarala, Prakashraj, and even those who play minor roles have turned this into a first class entertainer.

Firstly the story line is so well adapted to modern times - like taking a cell phone video, using contact lenses etc etc- which makes it so well- believable.

Secondly the story line seems original - the old and the new have blended so well that the outcome is a super entertainer.

And then there is that independent spy who spies with such class and evokes laughter by his silliness!

If you crave some laughter you should watch this!
